The BA12 and BA14 are classed as Beyond Architecture 1 cores, which target medium and high performance networking, embedded, automotive and portable computer environments. The Beyond Architecture 2 is aimed at achieving high code density.

The BA12 offers performance comparable to ARM9 processors and is supported with GNU tools support. ChipX and Beyond Semiconductor offer software porting contract services to help customers move away from other processor architectures.

The BA12 can be implemented as a ChipX ASIC product, and has been especially verified and optimized for use on ChipX structured ASICs. In a 130-nm structured ASIC a clock frequency of 180-MHz can be achieved the companies claimed.

"We are excited to offer our customers a silicon-proven and powerful processor solution with early software development capability," said said Elie Massabki, vice president of marketing at ChipX, in a statement.

"We have worked closely with the ChipX engineering team to optimize the BA12 processor to deliver efficient performance across the board," said Damjan Lampret, vice president of strategic alliances at Beyond Semiconductor, in the same statement.
