BERLIN The European Bank of Reconstruction and Development intends to loan up to $20M to develop entrepreneurial activity in Georgia, particularly outside of the capital Tbilisi.
The EBRD's Micro, Small and Medium Sized Enterprise (MSME) loan is expected to go to Bank Republic, a leading local bank, according to an EBRD statement.
The loan will increase supply of medium-term funding and will allow an increasing number of MSMEs to have access to bank financing.
Financial intermediation will also be increased in smaller cities and towns as the majority of Bank Republic’s expansion is expected to be outside of Tbilisi.

Well, I would say that a Georgia is a country economic development of which is quite slow. This country have complicated political relationship with the neighbors and that’s why it’s not suprising that they asked Germany to provide financial assistance. In these togh economic times of world financial crisis it’s very important to help small business to develop. It’s a very important sector for every economy and that’s why it’s good that affordable loans and financial assistance are available for small business owners. Georgia has resources for economic prosperity but I think that it’s necessary to set good international relationship with the other countries and improve the basics of their foreign policy.
