LONDON — Comms chip specialist Mindspeed Technologies (Newport Beach, Calif.) has sold off a bunch of what it says are "non-core" patents for $10 million.

The buyers of the IP were not revealed, nor any other technical information of the patents involved. Mindspeed merely said the patents came from a broad portfolio of patents which are no longer core to its business focus.

Mindspeed said it has been generating revenue from patent sales in the last year, and expects to dispose of additional "strategic, non-core" patents or licensing arrangements in the future.

The company's three key product families include analog transmission and switching solutions, multiservice access voice-over-IP processors for voice and data services across wireline and wireless networks and WAN communication products such as T/E carrier transmission devices and ATM/MPLS network processors.
