BERLIN — Auto electronics supplier Visteon has opened an office in St Petersburg, Russia to support business development activities and the construction of a manufacturing plant, according to a company statement.

Visteon is building a manufacturing facility in the Kaluga region, about 100 miles southwest of Moscow, and is scheduled to start production in 2010.

"With our representative office as a strong focal point, Visteon is well-positioned to build on the new business wins we have secured in Russia," said Robert Pallash, Visteon senior VP, in a statement.

"As we expand our manufacturing footprint in Russia, the St. Petersburg office will play a key role in driving further business expansion in the Russian market."

Samsung Electronics and Volkswagen have opened factories in the Kaluga Region and Volvo Trucks and Peugeot-Citroen have factories under construction.
