TTPcom four move on to form Cognovo

The four executives, Gordon Aspin, Mark Collins, Richard Fry and Tony Milbourn started TTPCom in 1987. TTPcom was sold to Motorola Inc. in June 2006 for $192 million. The four executives announced in January 2008 that they had joined with Professor Rick Hillum to form Camitri, a venture set up to market intellectual property from universities and research institutes to the communications industry.
They have now left Camitri to pursue a business model similar to that of TTPcom but aimed at 4G communications.
The company argues that as terminals will have to support multiple wireless technologies and standards (eg. LTE, HSPA+, EDGE, GPRS, GSM, TD-SCDMA, CDMA2000, IS-95, Bluetooth, WiFi, WiMAX, GPS, etc) reconfigurable architectures are becoming mandatory.
Cognovo states on its website that it has developed a software architecture which complements the capability of the latest flexible baseband processing enginers and that it is assembling a system reference design. "The complete SDR platform, comprising chip-level hardware, software framework and toolset, will be available for license and we welcome discussions with partners who share our vision of the wireless future," the company adds.
It does not indicate which vendors of "flexible baseband processing engines," the company is in discussions with, or is writing its software to run on.
