PARIS — The IEEE Council for Electronic Design Automation (CEDA) announced it has formed the Design Technology Committee to explore and analyze future requirements of the system and semiconductor communities toward the EDA industry.

The purpose of the Design Technology Committee, CEDA notified, consists in identifying emerging design challenges and capability gaps of common interest. These will be primarily focused but not limited to the use models and the interoperability of EDA tools, the standards used in EDA models to communicate with each other, as well as the best practices and business models to access design tools and design flows.

CEDA said it expects the Design Technology Committee will coordinate closely with existing standards development organizations, including Accellera, the IEEE DA Standards Committee and the Silicon Integration Initiative (Si2).

"The Design Technology Committee consists of leaders exclusively from semiconductor and systems companies who use EDA tools and will cooperate with other groups inside and outside the IEEE on future EDA standards and other initiatives to advance the availability of interoperable tools to meet the industry's needs," commented Leon Stok, IBM's vice president of EDA and chair of the new Design Technology Committee.

CEDA said it actively solicits nominations for additional members.

The objectives of IEEE/CEDA include fostering design automation of electronic circuits and systems at all levels, by means of publications, conferences/workshops and volunteer activities.
