LONDON – EDA tools vendor Mentor Graphics Corp. has announced that it has filed a patent infringement suit against French emulation tools vendor EVE SA in a federal court in Oregon.
The move follows efforts by Mentor to prevent Paris-based EVE selling its products in Japan (see EVE plans vigorous defense against Mentor claim).
In its latest suit Mentor alleges that EVE products infringe on United States Patent No. 6,876,962 issued April 5, 2005, and said it is seeking damages and to bar the manufacture and sale of EVE's products in the United States.
"We have an obligation to our shareholders to defend our intellectual property when we believe it has been infringed." said Tom Evans, corporate intellectual property counsel for Mentor Graphics.
A Mentor spokesman declined to comment on the company's legal strategy.

The last time Mentor did this, they got EVE to pay for licenses. Wondering it that's the plan again.
