Lyrtech makes financial progress
9/1/2010 7:07 AM EDT
Lyrtech Inc. (Quebec City, Canada) which specializes in digital signal processing technologies and supplies a range of DSP-FPGA development platforms has reported a net profit of $0.1 million for the second quarter of 2010.
During the second quarter of 2010, total revenues reached $2.0 million, compared to $1.9 million during the same period in 2009. The company has a backlog of over $4.8 million to be delivered in 2010 and closed a 24-month contract for $28 million.
"We are very proud to have turned around our operations and record, for a second consecutive quarter, a positive EBITDA of $0.5 million and a net profit of $0.1 million," said Louis Bélanger, president and CEO of Lyrtech.
Gross margin reached 54 percent of revenues during the second quarter of 2010 and this small increase results from the mix of revenues where the company generated higher volume on turnkey contracts and higher end platforms both
delivering better margins.
Researchers at Microsoft have been successful in developing an experimental ‘white space’ device using Lyrtech’s SFF SDR development platform. ‘White space’ development aims to implement FCC-compliant protocols and devices for unlicensed use in the recently liberated upper-TV-channel bands (512–698 MHz, channels 21–51).
The SFF SDR development platform has RF tunability and signal processing capabilities.
The details of this project are described in the scientific paper titled Rethinking Indoor Wireless Mesh Design: Low Power, Low Frequency, Full-duplex
