SAN JOSE, Calif. - Tanner EDA has joined the IPL Alliance, an industry organization established to develop interoperable process design kit (iPDK) standards.

The IPL Alliance, comprised of major EDA and foundry companies, has devised the first open standard for iPDKs. A PDK is a comprehensive set of foundry-verified data files including schematic symbols, component descriptions, parameterized cells, and callbacks used in a complete design flow.

The IPL Alliance was started in 2007, with five founding members: AWR, Ciranova, SpringSoft, Silicon Navigator and Synopsys. Mentor Graphics and Pulsic joined as supporting members. The newest members are the following entities: TSMC, Helic, JEDAT, Magma, Micro Magic and Virage Logic. Recently, Altera, LFoundry, ST, TowerJazz and others joined the group.

Tanner EDA provides analog and mixed-signal designers with the HiPer Silicon full-flow design suite, a complete design flow from schematic capture, circuit simulation, and waveform probing to physical layout and verification.

I guess cadence is watching these events closely as PDK is integral part of deliverables which cadence provides as part of its Cadence tool. Already war of words has errupted between cadence and iPDK but it would be interesting to see what happens next. Will cadence acknowledge iPDK alliance or will cadence be able to beat alliance ?
