Tektronix, Inc. is setting up a single-source calibration and repair services for all makes and types of instruments spanning 130,000 different instruments from over 9,000 manufacturers.
Tektronix Service Solutions combines the strength of Tektronix with the service capabilities of recently acquired Davis Calibration and Sypris Test & Measurement (STM). The resulting organization has more than 100 on-site, mobile and depot locations. STM, acquired by Tektronix in October 2009, completed the acquisition of Davis Calibration in January 2010.
"The goal with Tektronix Service Solutions is to ensure that our customers achieve superior return on their test and measurement investments and enable our customer to focus on building their core business," said Paul Caragher, president, Service Solutions, Tektronix. "From the new Tektronix Gold Care Plans to our multiple vendor calibration programs and our advanced services, such as, asset optimization, we are in a position to be a single-source service provider to our customers."
TSS says it can custom-tailor programs in the way that delivers the most business value and that its organization is built around a comprehensive quality system with multiple NIST traceable certificate options including ANSI Z-540.1, ISO IEC 17025 and ISO 9001:2008. Asset optimization services give 360 degree online visibility into instrument usage and provide reporting and analysis tools to optimize calibration cycle tracking.
The establishment of TSS says Tektronix is that it sees companies maintenance and asset management requirements increasingly turning to service and calibration providers with the scale and expertise to meet instrument care needs broadly, both in terms of instrument types and geographic coverage.

This sounds like a nice way to provide one stop calibration services for organizations with a variety of instrumentation - and allow some economies of scale to benefit the user community. I hope that the remaining independent test laboratories will ensure that competitive pricing and test quality are maintained.
