GOYANG, South Korea – At the Korea Electronics Show here, local companies showed a dizzying array of products. 3-D TVs, DRAMs, LED ICs and other products were big hits.
Here’s the top 10 technologies or products-and associated videos-at the event:
1. Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. is the world’s first DRAM maker to ship a 30-nm-class device. This is a 2-Gbit DDR3 chip, base on 35-nm technology. That can be seen here.
2. Samsung also showed a 40-inch virtual holographic LCD. That can be seen here. It also rolled out a transparent LCD that could explain the history of wine.
3. LG Display’s 3-D LCD TV home theatre. It’s an 48-inch system!
4. LG’s 19-inch flexible electronic display paper. It’s a 2,560 x 1,600 monochrome display.
5. Hynix Semiconductor Inc. tipped a 30-nm-class DRAM, which will ship next year.
6. South Korean startup Imagis Co. Ltd. is shipping perhaps the next big thing in mobile devices-a multi-purpose, haptic driver. Haptics is a tactile feedback technology. By applying a force, an end user can feel a vibration or motion on a system.
7. Analog foundry vendor Dongbu HiTek said its BCD process technology was used to make an LED driver IC. It was developed in collaboration with ADDtek, a Taiwanese fabless company. Dongbu has a 180-nm BDC process, enabling a range of apps.
8. LG’s smart TV. It’s a Web connected TV. (Sorry for the bad camera work!).
9. Samsung showed a similar smart TV technology.
10. Not to be outdone, Samsung showed a full HD, 3-D LED TV. And here’s another 3-D LCD TV from the company.

Compared to Japan Technology shows, Korea seems to focus very much on 3D only. The quality of the holographic LCD looks very impressive. The haptic driver has a very interesting product idea. I can see application on gaming. What else can it apply to?

Touch feedback is neat and could be quite useful I would imagine. Gamers could feel their weapon kick back and grasp doorknobs, push / lift objects. It could open up a whole new set of game genres. Instead of a glowing light (indicating warning) the haptic driver could push back on the user control to indicate warning danger ahead.. I read about haptic drivers being tested in cars to provide non-visual feedback to drivers (aka collision avoidance). There must be many more potential applications for this emerging technology.

Thank you for showing the glimpses ( on youtube) of the next generation products especially in the 3D TV world from the Korea Electronic Show. I like the concept of the Holographic 3D TV . Creation of 3D live motion images in the air is something which is more closer to the reality than the 3D LED TVs. It is like watching an event live and may be participate in the same, mingle with the characters and interact with them.

Interesting stuff; too bad some of the video was so marginal. Next time take some "insurance" shots and edit out the bad parts!

DRAM and TV, it seems they are all doing the same things, except the Haptic Driver.

The korean electronic show is not at all a match for what people have displayed at the Japan electronic show. It is only some displays - LED, LCD and 3D. Toshibha vs LG/Samsung will defintely give more points to the Japan electronic industry. Japan is running ahead of all the remaiining parts of the world.

Holographic LCD is supercool and interesting but nice aspect to create 3D images. Compared to Toshiba's glassless 3D i bet samsung is going to make money if they'll reveal this product to market. To bad to have weak&limitted video besides thanks @mark for sneak reviews.
