SAN JOSE, Calif. - Lowering its forecast amid a DRAM slump, South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. said that its fourth-quarter operating profit is expected to hit 3 trillion won ($2.67 billion), down 38.3 percent from the previous quarter and down 12.8 percent a year earlier, according to the Trading Markets Web site.
Samsung will miss its forecast. The company was expected to see an operating income of 3.33 trillion won ($2.97 billion) in the quarter, according to the Yonhap News Agency.
Fourth-quarter sales are expected to hit 41 trillion won $36.5 billion), up 4.46 per cent from a year earlier, according to the report.
''Market analysts estimated that Samsung's flagship semiconductor division and LCD panel-making business logged lower profits, while losses in its TV business widened from the previous quarter on aggressive marketing fees,'' according to the report.
Amid a slowdown in DRAM, Samsung is reducing its capital spending by 14 percent for 2011.

So seems like mobile is the only business where samsung is enjoying profits. Rest all business seems to lag behind. But interesting to know if this is only one quarter phenomenon or will it continue ?
