LONDON – Foundry chipmaker Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. and RDA Microelectronics Inc. have announced the production of an FM receiver chip using a 55-nm logic process.

The device includes physical intellectual property from Innopower Technology Corp. and the chip is the result of a collaborative effort between RDA (Shanghai, China), SMIC (Shanghai, China) and Innopower (Hsinchu, Taiwan).

The RDA5802N integrates an FM stereo radio tuner with synthesizer, IF selectivity and MPX decoder. "We are quite satisfied that SMIC is fully capable of tackling our leading-edge design challenges," said Vincent Tai, chief executive officer of RDA, in a statement issued by SMIC.

Libraries and memory compilers for SMIC's 55-nm low-leakage process are available for free download from Innopower's website.
