That is a great dissection of the ipad2. Would be really good to see more details regarding the individual subsystems and the suppliers.

Yes,I agree with you. It would be good if we get more details like cost, supplier name etc. How is the VGA camera performance, heard some complaints that its resolution is not that great ?

It's basically 3 batteries and a display with a relatively few integrated modules... Cost?

No mystery or magic. Apple is feeding on endless press obsession. If other firms enjoy that, this competition will narrow.

As always, Apple has done a great job on mechanical design. The assembly (dissemble) of the units is so straightforward. What amazed me is the weight reduction. There are so few components; majority of the weight is coming from the battery. The analysis indicates Apple has push the weight to the limit. What else can Apple to do increase the battery life? Reducing power consumption from the CPU and screen?

You haven't seen your cordless phone battery lately have you?.
Most cellphones batteries may apear to have a good energy density from their reduced footprint & with 5Hr talk time, but not much better than most tablets.

@RickMerritt: I am sure this is a typo (slide 9):
"STMicroelectronics LIS331DLH six-axis accelerometer." It is a 3-axis part; for Mechanics purist, the additional three degrees of freedom (DOF) represent rotations (angular / tilt sensing DOF's) that are possible to be measured if you use a triad of accelerometers at the origin and two orthogonal ones along each axis (i.e., Z & Y along X, X & Y along Z, etc.).

Great dissection nonetheless!

Yes it would be nice, but I'm sure they cannot do that. I'm also betting they are Apple part numbers and wouldn't help you at all...

Wow! I'm not a fan of Apple by any stretch of the imagination, but what an amazing job integrating all of the components and sub-systems in a light, compact form-factor. Truly impressive engineering. But, I like to give credit where credit is due and am really impressed by all the Chinese workers putting in 18-hour days cranking these things out by the millions. Their effort and attention to detail is outstanding.

Looks like you got some "crumblies" left over. The question I'd like to know is, did you ever get it back together?
