Rexchip makes Elpida's 30-nm DRAM

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Taiwan's Rexchip Electronics Corp. has completed a pilot run of Elpida’s 30-nm 2-Gbit DDR3 DRAM product.
Rexchip hopes to complete the migration to Elpida’s 30-nm process in the second half of 2011, with a monthly capacity of 85,000 wafers producing 2-Gbit DDR3 and 4-Gbit DDR3 for high-end electronic products.
Within its own fabs, Japan's Elpida Memory Inc. is focusing more on mobile DRAM, it was noted.
Rexchip Electronics was established on 2006, as a 300-mm DRAM manufacturing joint venture between Taiwan's Powerchip Technology Corp. and Japan's Elpida. Now, Elpida has a majority stake in Rexchip, based in Taichung.
Earlier this year, Taiwan's Powerchip Technology Corp. exited the DRAM market, and transferred the business over to Elpida.
Under the terms, Elpida will purchase all DRAM products that Powerchip will manufacture, including the current portion which Powerchip has been selling as Powerchip branded products. Elpida will sell those products as Elpida's house brand products.
