LONDON – Consumer electronics equipment company LG Electronics has signed a licensing agreement with ARM Holdings plc that covers the Cortex processor and Mali graphics processor families.
The deal covers the Cortex-A15 MPCore and Cortex-A9 MPCore processors, as well as the Mali-T604 GPU and CoreLink interconnect and system IP.
The cores will be used to drive a platform-based strategy in applications that include digital TV, set top boxes (STB), mobile phones, tablets and smart-grid electricity supply, ARM said. LG, who first licensed ARM technology in 1995, has incorporated ARM processors across its product lines, from handsets to digital TVs.
Neither the details of the licensing deal nor the value of deal in terms of initial licensing fee and per unit royalties were disclosed.
