EE Times Tuesday (May 4) honored the winners of the 2011 Annual Creativity in Electronics (ACE) Awards in a reception at the Embedded Systems Conference here.
The ACE Awards celebrate the creators of technology who demonstrate leadership and innovation in the global industry and shape the world we live in.
"The 2011 winners, whose age, education and background cover a remarkable range, are the essence of creativity that offers promise for America’s technology future. This exceptional group is a cross-section of engineering talent that reaches from Irwin Mark Jacobs, co-founder and former chairman of Qualcomm to four inventive students from Sparta High School in Wisconsin," said Junko Yoshida, editor in chief of EE Times.
The 2011 winners were:
Design Team of the Year – Prime Sense
Innovator of the Year – Mario Paniccia, Intel Fellow, Intel Labs Director, Photonics Technology Lab, Intel Corp.
Executive of the Year – Jason Rhode, President & CEO, Cirrus Logic
Startup of the Year – Globalfoundries Inc.
Company of the Year – Altera Corp.
Most Promising New Technology – Lyric Semiconductor, Lyric Error Correction for Flash Memory
Energy Technology Award – Efficient Power Conversion Corp.
Editors' Choice Award – Apple's iPad Development Team
Student of the Year – Matt Bunting, University of Arizona
Contributor of the Year – Paul Boldt, Don Scansen, Tim Whibley
Most Engaged Member of the EE Times Community of the Year – Frank Eory, Freescale Semiconductor
Best Student Design/Design Challenge with Public Schools Technology Education- Teacher and Pack Attack student team members – Heidi Blaha, Josh Clark, Keith Ender. Austin Feltner, Sparta High School, Sparta Wis.

Interesting to see the TimerBlox family from Linear Technology is the most popular analog-mixed signal product. The TimerBlox looks funny in function as it is just a very simple (but yet very useful) function in a whole system but yet has drawn the attention of system designers to vote for its popularity!
