UMC's flat sales in April drag on year

LONDON – Sales at foundry chip supplier United Microelectronics Corp. (Hsinchu, Taiwan) were NT$9,564 million (about $334 million) in April, down 0.2 percent compared with sales of NT$9585 (about $335 million) in March and an increase of 2.6 percent over sales in April 2010.
From a strong January sales posting, sales in subsequent months have seen the year-to-date growth comparison with the previous year go from 10.75 percent in January to 7.53 in February, to 5.25 in March and to 4.57 percent in April, according to UMC.
UMC's April sales underperformed the sequential rise in monthly sales that has been typical of UMC over the last decade.
On average over the last decade UMC has posted a 5.8 percent growth in revenue in April when compared with March. With the highest and lowest growth figures taken out UMC.
