Brazilian startup makes IP for Lfoundry use

LONDON – Chipus Microelectronics SA, a Brazilian startup licensor of analog and mixed-signal circuit designs, has announced the availability of a power management unit (PMU) for use on LFoundry's 150-nm mixed-signal process technology.

Chipus (Florianopolis, Brazil) said the PMU is complementary to switched regulators for dc-to-dc conversion in SoCs for portable applications.

Chipus and LFoundry GmbH (Landshut, Germany) are collaborating to produce a range of silicon-proven analog and mixed-signal IP cores for the 150-nm CMOS process node for battery-powered applications. The collaboration has resulted in several mixed-signal IP cores, including the PMU being proven on a LF150 silicon test-chip.

"Besides its very low stand-by power consumption, this IP features the possibility of extending the operation of the PMU to supply the SoC not only when in stand-by, but also under light load conditions in normal operation," said Murilo Pessatti, CEO of Chipus Microelectronics, in a statement.

"LFoundry is constantly developing competitive analog and mixed-signal IPs for the 150-nm, and now also 110-nm, technologies. Therefore co-operations with a customer-specific IP provider such as Chipus for low power are very fruitful for our business to reduce development timelines of the products of our customers," says Gerhard Spitzlsperger, CTO of LFoundry, in the same statement.

Pessatti said the PMU was designed to be modular, customizable, configurable and portable, allowing fast porting to CMOS technologies.
