MANHASSET, NY -- TSMC has expanded Solido Variation Designer deployment in its Analog/Mixed-Signal (AMS) Reference Flow 2.0 for TSMC’s 28-nm design infrastructure.
The Solido Variation Designer product suite utilizes efficient simulation management techniques including device and interconnect level analysis through the TSMC LDE API interface.
The suite analyzes and applies simulation resources to minimize variation impact on design specifications, identify electrical hotspots, fix specification failures and reduce late stage layout impacts.
In a blind global survey of 486 engineers and engineering managers conducted by Solido in April, two-thirds of designers and managers named variation-aware design as a top segment where technology advancement is needed over 2011 and 2012.
"By using Solido Variation Designer with TSMC models, our customers can minimize late-stage changes due to process variations and layout dependent effects.” said Amit Gupta, president and CEO of Solido Design Automation, in a statement.
Solido Design Automation Inc. is a privately held company with solid venture capital funding. The company has developed a proprietary algorithm to accurately focus simulations which, according to Solido, is much faster than using Monte Carlo analysis for measuring the robustness of high-sigma designs.

Is Solido Design Automation available only with 28nm or will TMSC eventually roll out this support for other processes as well ?

Can't speak for TSMC, but the foundry is a main partner of Solido so I expect Solido might be applied to other processes in the future.

Solido Design Automation's Variation Designer is in use across a number of foundries with process nodes up to 130nm. The Solido technology is applicable to anyone wanting to efficiently maximize the manufacturability of their designs across corner or statistical models and only requires access to those models to operate.
The smaller geometries of 28nm and below present additional challenges to the designer, as layout effects can have a significant impact on electrical performance. To address this, Solido and TSMC have spent the last couple years collaborating on solutions which are now part of TSMCs AMS Reference Flow 2.0.
