EU blocks sales of Samsung Galaxy Tab

SAN FRANCISCO—In the latest and most far-reaching twist in an escalating legal battle between electronics heavyweights Apple Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., a European court issued an order Tuesday (Aug. 9) temporarily barring Samsung from selling its Galaxy Tab 10.1 media tablets in most of the European Union, according to reports.

A district court in Dusseldorf, Germany, granted the injunction at Apple's request, according to reports. The injunction bans sales of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 throughout the EU, except in the Netherlands, according to the reports.

In recent months, Apple has taken aggressive legal action against Samsung, a longtime Apple supplier that Apple has accused of copying the look and feel of Apple's iPad and iPhone with its own Galaxy smarthphone and tablet offerings.

Last week, Samsung agreed to an Apple request not to sell Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablets in Australia, pending the outcome of litigation between the two companies in that country.

In April, Apple filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Samsung in U.S. District Court in Northern California. Samsung later countersued Apple and, in June, filed a complaint against Apple with the U.S. International Trade Commission.

Can we change the title to: Apple & Samsung employ the legal system to stifle healthy competition.

I remember when the success of a product was based on its own merit ... not on the presumption of 'Last Lawyer Standing'
