LONDON – Link A Media Devices Inc., a developer of controller and error recovery ICs for use with magnetic hard disk and solid-state data storage devices, has said it has raised $16 million in a Series D round of funding.
Investors included Itochu Technology Ventures, Keynote Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners, SunAmerica Ventures and several strategic partners, Link A Media said in a press release. The money is earmarked for the commercialization of new products and to expand the current customer base.
Link A Media (Santa Clara, Calif.) said it has been shipping parity checking ICs for 2.5-inch mobile hard disk drive (HDD) products since last year. The company has also designed custom controller ICs for NAND-based solid-state drives (SSDs). Link A Media has a platform for SSD controllers called FlashLINK2 that address a range of applications from low power mobile products to high performance enterprise SSDs.
The company's error recovery technologies extend the endurance of single and multi-level cell (SLC and MLC) NAND flash. Link A Media claims that its technologies can improve NAND endurance by a factor of between 20 and 30 times base line performance.
The company, founded in 2004, is led by CEO and chairman Hemant Thapar.
