Mosaid expands patent suit against Elpida

8/12/2011 2:28 PM EDT

SAN FRANCISCO—Canadian memory IP vendor Mosaid Technologies Inc. said Friday (Aug. 12) it expanded a patent infringement lawsuit against Elpida Memory Inc. and two other firms to include another Mosaid-owned patent.

The amended complaint now alleges infringement of seven of Mosaid's U.S. patents. Mosaid filed its original complaint against Elpida (Tokyo) as well as Buffalo Inc. and Axiontech Technologies in U.S. District Court in east Texas on May 10.

Mosaid claims that the latest patent added to the suit, U.S. patent No. 7,492,656, is being violated by all three defendants, including in Elpida's low-power DDR2 products.

"The addition of the '656 patent expands the product coverage of our patent infringement case against Elpida and the other defendants," said Michael Vladescu, Mosaid's vice president of licensing and IP, in a statement. "While we are interested in resolving this dispute, we are also fully prepared to continue defending our intellectual property rights through litigation."
