Cypress rolls new PSoC design environment

9/22/2011 1:15 PM EDT

MONTEREY, Calif.—Cypress Semiconductor Corp. Thursday (Sept. 22) introduced version 2.0 of its PSoC Creator design environment for the PSoC 3 and PSoC 5 programmable system-on-chip families.

PSoC Creator 2.0 now interoperates with the Keil µVision 4 integrated development environment (IDE), enabling software engineers to create PSoC applications using an industry-leading firmware development tool, Cypress (San Jose, Calif.) said. The integration of the two tools means that PSoC designs can be rapidly drawn, configured and built in PSoC Creator, and the application code built in µVision 4, the company said.

The new version also adds 11 new, pre-configured peripheral components that can be dropped into the schematic design canvas and combined into powerful systems, Cypress said. Behind the scenes, Cypress has updated PSoC Creator’s design routing functionality, including a new timing-driven routing capability that can be used to increase clock speed on many designs by 20 percent or more, Cypress said.

More information on PSoC Creator is available on Cypress's website.

Cypress said it is making PSoC Creator 2.0 available to select customers prior to its general release in the fourth quarter. Customers can visit the Cypress Design Community site for details on the early access program and to apply for a free license to the product, the company said. Users will also be selected from customers who register at Cypress's booth (No. 400) at the Embedded Systems Conference in Boston from Sept. 26 to 27, the company said.
