Qualcomm names Mollenkopf president, COO

SAN FRANCISCO—Qualcomm Inc. said Tuesday (Oct. 4) that Steve Mollenkopf, president of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies, has been promoted to president and chief operating officer of the company, effective Nov. 12.
Mollenkopf, who first joined Qualcomm as an engineer in 1994, will replace Steve Altman as the company's president. Altman will become vice chairman of the company, Qualcomm said.
Qualcomm (San Diego) said Derek Aberle, president of Qualcomm Technology Licensing, was also promoted to has been promoted to executive vice president and group president at the company.
"I would like to congratulate all three gentlemen on their new positions and thank them for their many years of service to the company," said Paul Jacobs, Qualcomm's chairman and CEO, in a statement.
Mollenkopf will oversee Qualcomm's divisions, business operations and market expansion and development areas, Qualcomm said. He also will continue in his role as president of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies, the company said.
In his new role, Altman will continue as a member of Qualcomm's executive committee and provide direction and guidance on key initiatives across all areas of the business, as well as on overall vision and strategy, Qualcomm said.
Both Altman and Mollenkopf will continue to report to Jacobs, Qualcomm said.
In addition to continuing to serve as president of the Qualcomm Technology Licensing division, Aberle will oversee Qualcomm's core services businesses, as well as the standards and global marketing activities, Qualcomm said. He will report directly to Mollenkopf, Qualcomm said.
