Apple co-founder Jobs passes at 56

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Apple co-founder and long time chief executive Steve Jobs passed away. He was 56.
Apple's board announced his passing in a brief note.
"We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today. Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives.
"The world is immeasurably better because of Steve. His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts," the statement read.
Jobs will be remembered for his passion for compelling product design. Although not an engineer, his design sense helped spark personal computing with the original Apple microcomputers. Later he lead a renaissance at Apple with the designs of the iPod, iPhone and iPad that helped define the markets for MP3 players, smartphones and tablets, respectively.
Jobs struggled in recent years with pancreatic cancer, taking a medical leave and eventually stepping down from his CEO role earlier this year.
Tim Cook, Apple's recently named chief executive, invited current and former employees to share "thoughts, memories and condolences" at rememberingsteve@apple.com.
"Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being," said Cook in a statement. "Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor," he said.
"Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple," Cook said. "We will honor his memory by dedicating ourselves to continuing the work he loved so much," he added.

RIP Steve. We have lost one of the truly great innovators and business icons of the modern era. Steve will be missed by many, and the sadness of his passing will be felt by millions who never even knew him.
In addition to his many creative and business contributions at Apple, I think one of his more significant achievements was bringing Hollywood and the music industry into the connected digital era and demonstrating that not all networked consumption of music and video was evil, and that in fact it was the foundation of new business models.

Books will be written about Steve Jobs and Apple, each one trying to pinpoint what made them great.
To me, the key answer is that Steve continued to push the envelope of his world and would not take "no, it can't be done" for an answer. As Apple became more successful, that stance became easier for Steve - he had 'street cred'. Along the way he had the ability to inspire others to join him and share the dreams and hard work it took to get there.

He had the wisdom of tapping into our collective imagination and creativity. In his 2005 commencement address at Stanford University, the only one he ever gave, Steve Jobs said: “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” Amen!

I'm deeply saddened...only a couple of days back the latest version of iPhone was released and today, the greatest visionary leader of this time, who basically created the vision for that product is no more among us. Talking only about his work life would be very mean. His entire life is an example of how exceptional he was.
I've watched the video Nic has shared. It shall touch every heart. I wished we would have Steve much longer...but my wish did not get fulfilled.

A sad day indeed. We have lost the foremost innovator of the technology world and his brilliance will be hard to replace. His ideas was what made Apple such an icon of modern elctronic industry and was something all competitors struggled to imitate. A great leader and visionary unlike few others who virtually defined the consumer tastes and moods. It was like he had a crystal ball to peek into the future.
His style is very nicely elucidated by how he described Apple works- he quoted the candian ice hockey chmpion " ... we dont skate to where the puck is gouing, we would like to skate to where the puck will be.."

Shocking and sad, even if we knew he wasn't well, it still came unexpectedly. His creative genius, his intuition in inventing instant trends, were uncanny. This was one example of an individual, the man himself, who definitely made a difference.
I won't pretend I was personally transfixed by his products, but it's impossible to deny the contributions he made. He made personal computing trendy, he made it mobile and portable, he made some of the most innovative business models actually work, he invented and then reinvented Apple, and got the whole personal computing industry to follow, trying to play catch-up. And I never saw Apple stores empty of customers.
A huge loss. RIP, Steve Jobs.

iSad for Steve RIP.
The industry in addition to Apple has lost a visionary. Condolences to his family and loved ones. Where would the world have been without Apple and Animated movies without Pixar.
Its surprising how coincidental, he just resigned in August and just two days ago new iPhone 4S was launched (with mixed/slight-negative feedback from community and critics). It might be akword to say but Steve even with his death gave one final gift to Apple as iPhone4S sales might jump to remember/honor his legacy by consumers.
RIP Steve, Long will live his legacy.

I have never seen such a humble and kind man, he was a genius and never carried himself like he was better than anyone else.
His creative mind helped make this world a better place.
My deepest sympathy goes out to his family and those who were blessed to know him personally.

Steve Jobs was definitely a visionary. He had a massive amount of motivation that allowed him to think beyond the cubical. I'm not exactly a hipster who thinks he's rebelling against the norm by following the Apple herd, but I will definitely say Apple builds some quality products. A lot more companies can learn a thing or three from Apple. Here's to you genius, good "Jobs"! May they all sport black turtlenecks at your funeral...

The biggest vision of Jobs compared to most of today entrepreneurs is that Jobs build something that lasts. He as well see the flaw of the existing products and gave a direction to make Apple products to be better. If he wasn't seen as someone who has innovated, he would be perceive as a great contributor the evolution of modern day computer.

5gb ipod (purchased used in Tokyo, oddly enough), 10gb ipod, a 20, 2 30's, a 40, three ipod touches, 2 80s (one was a replacement) 4 ipod nanos, and a mini... All except the mini and 1 nano have died. So while I agree that the technology and the influence will last for some time, the products pointedly don't. Of course, that's why Apple keeps making money! People want the next coolest thing. In the PC industry, the next coolest thing kind of fizzled out a long time ago.. People still buy them but less on emotional response than need. It'll be intesesting to see what happens without Jobs to help create the excitement on new stuff... Can Tim Cook (or someone esle) step up?
