UMC says sales nosedived again

SAN FRANCISCO—Taiwanese foundry United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC) said Friday (Oct. 7) that sales declined roughly 25 year-over-year for a second straight month in September.
UMC (Hsinchu, Taiwan) said September sales amounted to roughly NT$8.17 billion (about $267.6 million), down 0.3 percent from August and down 25.3 percent from September 2010.
Last month, UMC said August sales were down about 24.7 percent from August 2010.
UMC said sales for the first nine months of a year have amounted to about $81.45 billion, down 8.6 percent from the same period of 2010.

What is so specific about UMC that makes their sales decline more than other foundries? Kris

25% is huge for a foudry. I hope this is just a mix issue and not a sign of a larger downturn for the industry.

Very huge. TSMC is doing well. Something must be wrong in UMC. I do not think this in industry-wide

compare the websites of UMC and TSMC. The later one has a good communication in their front home page reflecting all their achivemnets.A kind of good self exposure and this shows their interest to magnetise the customers. I can expect that same is being done in all their interactions with their services for maintaining their business.
