Dylan McGrath

SANTA CLARA, Calif.— Electronics distributor Avnet Inc.'s Electronics Marketing group and IP vendor ARM Holdings plc Wednesday (Oct. 26) launched an e-commerce store dedicated to selling embedded software from a range of vendors to the embedded design community.

According to Avnet (Phoenix) and ARM (Cambridge, U.K.), the Embedded Software Store will enable customers to easily locate software supporting the ARM architecture. Software vendors involved include ARM, CMX Systems, DSP Concepts, Micrium, Motomic, Yassl and others, the companies said. A total of 15 vendors and about 1,000 individual products are participating in the site at launch, with many others expected to participate in coming months, according to Tim Barber, senior vice president of global design chain business development at Avnet Electronics Marketing.

"The goal behind it is very much around time to market," said Lance Howarth, executive vice president of marketing at ARM. Howarth said the store would give users a central location to evaluate and purchase embedded software tools. It will also provide embedded software vendors with the opportunity to get attention and notice for their products, he said.

The site, located at http://embeddedsoftwarestore.com, offers a quick download delivery system and preview of all license agreements in advance of purchase, the companies said. According to Barber, the companies initially targeted a specific list of top tier vendors for participation. In the next phase of the portal's development, a vendor rating system will be put in place to ensure the quality of products offered, Barber said.

Willard Tu, director of the Embedded Software Store, will other resources exist to enable users to find and evaluate tools, the Embedded Software Store is the first such effort designed to encourage commercial sales.

Harley Feldberg, Corporate Vice President at Avnet Electronics Marketing used his keynote on Staying Ahead of the Technology Curve at ARM TechCon to introduce the the Embedded Software Store.

It appears that the following link works:

http://embeddedsoftwarestore.com/store/em/SoftwareStoreHomeView?langId=-1&storeId=500201

I picked up this link from a similar article elsewhere about this store

The link in this article has "software" abbreviated as "sw". Evidently, Mr McGrath did not follow the link that he has published in his article.
