Celeno highlights Wi-Fi home multimedia at CES

MANHASSET, NY -- Celeno Communications is using CES to bring the word out on its Wi-Fi chips and software for HD multimedia and home entertainment networking applications.
Its newest CLR260 PCIe WLAN chip is an addition to the company’s 802.11n portfolio, which includes the CL1830 SoC and CLR250 USB/Wi-Fi chips designed for concurrent dual band and HD video streaming in the home.
The CLR260 operates in both the 2.4GHz and the uncongested 5GHz frequency channels
The company also announced a few design wins. The Inteno ZAP100, powered by Celeno’s technology, is being used by Telenor Sweden to wirelessly stream up to eight 1080p HD resolution video streams.
Also, late last year iiNet, Australia's second largest DSL broadband provider, selected Celeno-enabled Wi-Fi Ethernet bridges to support wireless delivery of its IPTV services. And Deutsche Telekom has selected Celeno’s CL1820 Wi-Fi chip to power its Speedport W 102 Bridge.
“Having now been selected by 75 carriers around the world, Celeno has unmistakably demonstrated that its chip portfolio and embedded technology is established as the world-class solution for distributing video in the home,” said Gilad Rozen, CEO of Celeno, in a statement.
The technology uses spatial channel awareness based on a real-time signaling process that is calculated according to the standard 802.11 messages received from home users. Multiple, closely spaced antennas use beam forming for maximum precise radiated power to all areas in a house.
According to Celeno, systems with their technology typically double the throughput at zero packet error conditions and improve range by a factor of ten compared to off-the-shelf 802.11n draft MIMO chips.
While this claim can be disputed and has been picked up by EE Times readers earlier, a design article by the company on its technology comes close to explaining the disputed possibilities here.
Privately-held Celeno was founded in 2005 and is headquartered in Ra'anana, Israel. The company has received over $30 million in capital investments from Greylock Partners, Pitango Venture Capital, Cisco, Miven, and Liberty Global Capital.
