HALF MOON BAY, Calif.—G. Dan Hutcheson, chairman and CEO of market watcher VLSI Research Inc., was awarded the 13th annual Bob Graham Award for outstanding contributions in semiconductor equipment and materials marketing at fab tool vendor trade group SEMI's annual Industry Strategy Symposium here Tuesday (Jan. 17).

SEMI (San Jose, Calif.) said its nominating committee recognized Hutcheson for his "major impact on the industry." Most of the leading chip and equipment vendors rely upon Hutcheson's research services, databases, and consulting services to plan and guide their strategic investments, SEMI noted.

Hutcheson said he was honored to receive the award and that he had learned a great deal for several members of the nominating committee. Hutcheson said he also learned a great deal from the late Bob Graham, a chip equipment executive who was part of the founding team of Intel Corp. and who helped establish Applied Materials Inc. and Novellus Systems Inc.

Hutcheson also thanked his father, Jerry Hutcheson, who founded VLSI Research in the 1970s and himself received the Bob Graham Award in 2002.

The Bob Graham Award was established to honor individuals for the creation and/or implementation of marketing programs that enhance customer satisfaction and further the growth of the semiconductor equipment and materials industry, according to SEMI.
