Cypress expands ITC complaint against GSI

SAN FRANCISCO—Cypress Semiconductor Corp. has expanded its patent infringement claims against GSI Technology Inc. in a case before the U.S. International Trade Commission, Cypress said Thursday (Jan. 19).
Cypress (San Jose, Calif.) expanded the list of products that it alleges infringe patents held by Cypress to include GSI's standard synchronous and ZBT SRAMs, the company said. Cypress expanded the list as the result of the ongoing discovery phase of litigation against GSI, the company said.
Cypress also reported that in a filing with the ITC on Nov. 21, 2011, it also added to the suit a proprietary product made by GSI for its largest customer.
The original ITC complaint filed by Cypress last June alleges infringement by GSI's SigmaQuad-II, SigmaQuad-III and SigmaDDR SRAM families of four Cypress SRAM patents. Cypress is seeking an exclusion order from the ITC that would prevent the importation of infringing GSI SRAMs.
In recent weeks, Cypress has released from its ITC action several companies originally named as importers of GSI memory products incorporated into their products, including the announcement Wednesday that Cypress filed a motion to release Alcatel-Lucent from the complaint. Cypress said the companies released from the complaint have agreed to unspecified terms with respect to ending the importation of the products named in the complaint.
"We continue to seek an immediate end to the importation of GSI products that infringe on Cypress’s intellectual property," said Dana Nazarian, executive vice president of Cypress's Memory Products division. "The ITC trial is on schedule for March, and we expect to prevail."
