SAN FRANCISCO—One day after issuing a better-than-expected fourth quarter earnings report, Intel Corp. Friday (Jan. 20) announced the promotions of  Brian Krzanich to chief operating officer and Dadi Perlmutter to chief product officer.

Intel also announced that Kirk Skaugen, vice president and head of Intel’s data center business, will become the new head of the PC Client Group, succeeding Intel Vice President Mooly Eden.

Krzanich had previously been a senior vice president in charge of Intel’s worldwide manufacturing. In his new role, Krzanich will continue to oversee manufacturing and also take on responsibility for internal IT and human resources, functions that previously reported into Andy Bryant, Intel's former chief administrative officer, who will assume the role of company chairman in May. Krzanich will report directly to Paul Otellini, Intel's president and CEO.

Intel (Santa Clara, Calif.) said Perlmutter was promoted to chief product officer in recognition of his work in developing the Intel Architecture product portfolio. He will continue to lead the Intel Architecture Group and continue reporting to Otellini, Intel said.

Skaugen will report directly to Perlmutter, Intel said. Eden is moving back to Israel after nine years in the U.S. at his request and will assume the position of president and general manager, Intel Israel, reporting to Perlmutter, Intel said.

Stacy Smith, Intel's senior vice president and chief financial officer, will now report directly to Otellini, Intel said. He had previously reported to Bryant.

Bill Holt, senior vice president and head of technology development, will also now report directly to Otellini, Intel said. Holt and Krzanich will continue to co-manage Intel's Technology and Manufacturing Group, the company said.

Diane Bryant, Intel vice president and chief information officer, will lead the data center business and succeed Skaugen as general manager of that group, Intel said.. She will report to Perlmutter, the company said.

Kim Stevenson, vice president of IT global operations and services, will succeed Bryant as CIO and report to Krzanich, Intel said.
The organization changes will become effective over the next 30 days and are designed to create a series of smooth management transitions, according to Intel.

It looks like they're grooming Krzanich to be the CEO when Otellini retires...

Krzanich is a bit of a dark horse. I guess Sean Maloney's health worked against him, and Dadi Perlmutter is losing out due to his age. Well, if things work out for Krzanich, an engineer will be at the helm of Intel again! :-)

Why wish Sean bad luck for his health. The guy is not in China getting back. Hope he is well because of his family. Intel is secondary for him. Of course, who cares who runs. But I want his health to be 100% perfect.

Patricia Sellers wrote a couple of nice pieces on Sean Maloney last year. His passion for his work and his passion for his family drive him and feed off of each other, and move him to return to health. All the best to him!

Krzanich is a helluva good guy, hard worker, and has come along way from his short stint at Cray Research Advanced Research GaAs fab ( for Cray 3 ).
Amazing fellow.
