Synopsys acquires verification IP firm

SAN FRANCISCO—EDA and intellectual property (IP) vendor Synopsys Inc. said Monday (Jan. 23) it acquired verification IP vendor ExpertIO Inc. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Synopsys (Mountain View, Calif.) said the deal would bolster its high-performance, full-featured verification IP to help designers address growing verification challenges. ExpertIO offers verification IP for industry standard protocols, including PCI Express, Ethernet and SATA.
"By acquiring ExpertIO, Synopsys adds a new set of storage protocols to our expanding VIP portfolio, plus an experienced team of development experts to help us drive the next level of innovation in [verification IP] technology," said Manoj Gandhi, senior vice president and general manager of Synopsys' Verification Group, in a statement.
Synopsys said ExpertIO's entire team of engineers would join the company's Verification Group. Craig Stoops, ExpertIO's founder and CEO, is joining the team as a technical leader helping drive Synopsys' verification IP roadmap, Synopsys said.
