LONDON – MStar Semiconductor Inc., a fabless supplier of chips for consumers and communications applications that has licensed graphics cores from Imagination Technologies Group plc, is also a licensor of Mali graphics technology from ARM Holdings plc.
MStar (Hsinchu, Taiwan) has said it is in mass production with Mali-400 GPU based chips for televisions. The Mali-400 core provides support for 3-D user interfaces, MStar said.
MStar announced in September 2011 that it had signed up to be able to use PowerVR SGX Series5 graphics processor cores from Imagination Technologies Group plc (Kings Langley, England). At the time the company it would use PowerVR for a range of consumer electronics chips.
"Our cooperation with ARM is proving successful, with the Mali-400 GPU in mass production as a key component of the MStar smart-TV system-on-chip," said W.K.Chia, vice president of R&D at MStar, in a statement.

Mali-400 GPU with 3D support will really pitch the display production companies, and combination of it with ARM will be another feather to be on top of selection of it in the display panels, it also depends at what rate it comes in the market, if the price of the semiconductor jewel is kept high the it will itself prevent use of it in a large prudiced devices.
