SEMI Europe symposium to review IC industry goals

MANHASSET, NY -- Chip-makers, semiconductor equipment manufacturers and IC materials suppliers will thrash out industry issues at the International Strategy Symposium Europe organized by SEMI Europe.
The 25th edition of ISS Europe will look at the next-generation IC processing technologies and try to figure out, in part, how to pay for it.
The European-centric conference will feature Gabriel M. Crean, VP for technology at CEA Technologies, Direction de la Recherche Technologique (DRT) as a keynote on the topic “Key Enabling Technologies for a Competitive Europe: Challenges and Solutions.” Crean is Scientific Director of the Division of Technological Research of the Atomic Energy Commission of France whichincludes three world class research institutes in Micro-NanoTechnologies (LETI), New Technologies for Energy (LITEN) and Information Technology (LIST) in Paris and Grenoble.
According to its organizers, the ISS program agenda includes presentations on the critical trends, issues and developments facing every senior leader in the industry. An executive panel “Competitive and Advanced Manufacturing in Europe” will be moderated by Heinz Kundert of SEMI Europe. The panelists include executives from Globalfoundries, Infineon, Intel, Robert Bosch Venture Capital, Texas Instruments, and the European Commission.
Claus Schmidt, Robert Bosch Venture Capital, will bring an investor's point of view, looking at the process by which ideas and patents translate into successful products.
Bill McClean, president of market research firm IC Insights, will argue the industry has entered uncharted territory for which there is little or no precedent while analyst Malcolm Penn, Future Horizons, will look at the business drivers: the economy, unit demand, capacity and ASPs.
Luc van den Hove, research consortium IMEC president, will look at how countries and companies can bring to bear the best brains and technologies together.
Ed van den Kieboom, Plastic Electronics Foundation, will discuss the opportunities and challenges in Plastic Electronics and Nikolay Lisay of Russia's Angstrem-T, will talk about the revival of the Russian microelectronic industry. Beatrice Shepherd analyst at Frost & Sullivan, will look at semicoonductor opportunities in Russia.
