LONDON – Sales at foundry wafer processor Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. were approximately NT$34.05 billion (about $1.15 billion), an increase of 11.4 percent over December 2011 and a decrease of 1.1 percent over January 2011.
On a consolidated basis, net sales for January 2012 were approximately NT$34.57 billion (about $1.17 billion), an increase of 10.6 percent over December 2011 and a decrease of 2.3 percent over January 2011.
For December 2011 TSMC's sales were about 10 percent lower than in December 2010. TSMC's 4Q11 sales were 3 percent lower than those for 4Q10.
The reduced annual percentage fall in the latest monthly sales suggests that a market correction may have bottomed out and that TSMC (Hsinchu, Taiwan) will return to annual percentage growth month by month and quarter by quarter.

Surprised to see TSMC sales were down compared to last quarter. Considering the fact that UMC 28-nm roll out beating expectations, TSMC will face stiff competition from UMC in 2012.
