Engineering knowledge requires sacrifices be made. This IPAD gave its life so that we could disect its design. RIP.

Indeed. All in the name of furthering human knowledge. Still, every time I read one of these teardown reports, I always think about how many people would love to have the gadget the analysts just ripped to shreds. Someone from UBM TechInsights waited in line for hours to get their bands on this baby. It's a pretty unique line of work.

Meant to say "get their hands on this baby."

A few more have been sacrificed in some slightly different engineering perspective (physics?). Im not sure what they learn from this, but have a look at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAl28d6tbko
I'm waiting for the new ipad to get the same treatment.

it won't take long to tear down silicon if they have a handy grind.

I would like to see how green is this new iPAD. Also, what about teardown of firmware / software for this new iPad?

I've not seen one in green yet. Don't they mostly come in black or white? And of course the back is brushed aluminum.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Is 4G is already a widely used in America? I believe the extra cost will be taken easily by the apple customers.

Since there is no price difference in 3G Vs 4G, all new devices are switching to 4G now. Its gaining popularity fast. Service providers are also promoting it since its giving them benefit of larger bandwidth with similar data cap.

No not yet. I have the 4G option on my phone but I can't get it where I live. 3G has been good enough so far.

Anyone experienced the supreme speed of 4G yet?

The antennae position seems odd; I guess maybe they applied lessons learned from the iPhone?

Shame on you EEtimes, splitting a page of pics into 18 page loads just for some cheap advertisement revenue. You can't take me for a ride, I just kept clicking next, next, all the while looking at the center of the screen. The 18 clicks got over in like 1.5 mins, so how much did you say you earned for those 18 pages you made me browse?

These teardowns are all just a gimmick IMO.

So the teardown is only important to the next company that will make the next solid state media player/displayer to compete with the iPad? So Apple's products are made in China with a quality and longevity to match. And with totally controlled content also from Apple. Sounds more like monopoly and less like innovation. The manufacturing Tech in the iPad has been around for years. So Apple's revenue stream is more about gizmodoland and very little about innovation.

Apple's this baby is breaking all records. Today read that Apple has sold about 3millions in just 3 days! I think that it is about a billion more to the already huge cash pile.

It would be better if they put a ruler next to the PCBs so we can get a perspective on the size.
