UBM Electronics launches redesigned EDN.com

6/4/2012 2:01 PM EDT

SAN FRANCISCO – UBM Electronics announced Monday (June 4) a makeover of its Electronics Design Network Web site, EDN.com, as a new online community for design engineers, developers and industry managers.

The redesigned EDN Web site will sharpen its focus on providing readers with in-depth technical and how-to information along with technology updates. The site redesign also will emphasis mentoring and learning, design tools, networking, peer-to-peer collaboration and a discussion forum.

Among the key components of the redesigned EDN.com are:

  • --The EDN.com homepage that highlights current expert content, blogs and posts from EDN’s Facebook and Twitter content along with discussions, videos and comments drawn from the EDN.com community.
  • --“Design Centers” that pull together content and discussions from across EDN to address key industry segments ranging from analog and automotive to test and measurement. Each Design Center community is led by an EDN editor.
  • --Tools and Learning: This section showcases products, development kits, design tools, teardowns, courses, videos and webinars along with the Knowledge Center.
  •  --Community: A greater emphasis on cultivating deeper engagement and interaction members through features like “Design Ideas,” “My Tools” and the “EDN Vault.”

“Engineering is all about exploring, building, testing, modifying, perfecting, and, in the end, making a difference in the real-world,” said Patrick Mannion, Brand Director, EDN, Test & Measurement World, and Embedded.com at UBM Electronics. “That’s what engineers like to do, and EDN.com is focused on empowering engineers to do this quicker and within a user-friendly, easily navigable, collaborative environment that we call the Electronics Design Network.”

Added Kathy Astromoff, CEO at UBM Electronics: “Through proven social networking technologies, mentoring, and education, the new EDN.com provides engineers with the vital information and peer-to-peer resources they need to succeed. The way our audience uses media is changing – whether it’s on the go, via multiple devices, or in different formats. As the Electronics Design Network, we’re evolving the EDN brand to enable this new interactive, engaged online community to expand and deepen users’ engagement with each other, our customers and the electronics ecosystem as a whole, from the designers and innovators themselves, through to the design services and technical marketing resources they need to make their design a success.”

EDN.com also will incorporate information from DataSheets.com, a Web site created for design engineers and electronics purchasing professionals to quickly find electronic parts.

UBM Electronics also is the publisher of EE Times, EE Times DesignLines, EBN, Design News and TechOnline.

A social network for design engineers. It is a good move and will definitely help design to be done quicker and better. :)

I do not understand what is the major difference between eetimes and edn when both are operated under same wing for same purpose.

EDN has always been my favorite technical magazine. I have found many quality articles on topics related to design guidelines and best practices in EDN, which helped me in grooming my knowledge as a electronics designer. Good to see more focus around building a design community on social network!

It seems that the results of a survey that I took quite a few months back have been taken seriously. Good. After all, if one seeks opinions on how to make a better publication, it is prudent to heed some of the suggestions.
