BELLEVUE, Wash.—Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) Monday (June 11) announced the formation of a business unit dedicated to marketing the company's accelerated processing units (APUs) for embedded applications.
AMD (Sunnyvale, Calif.) appointed Arun Iyengar, former head of Altera Corp.'s Military, Industrial, Computing business division, to run the new Embedded Solutions Group. As corporate vice president and general manager of the business group, Iyengar will report to Lisa Su, AMD senior vice president and general manager of the company['s global business units, the company said.
"AMD APUs have been extremely well received by embedded system designers who require more graphic-intensive displays and compute power, while continuing to increase our engagement with ecosystem partners to deliver a complete solution," Su said through a statement. "Arun's appointment and dedicated focus on expanding our differentiated embedded offerings will help ensure we are seizing the opportunity to expand in this rapidly growing market."
Iyengar previously led Altera's Communications business unit. All told, he has more than 20 years experience in the semiconductor industry, according to AMD.

Surely ARM based.
Or maybe agnostic to the core in the spirit of HSA?

Is there going to be new processors made by AMD or is it just a class of IP blocks to be used in e,bedded processor applications.

Making accelerated processing units (APUs) for embedded applications is certainly a new strategy for AMD to grow revenue. This has an uptick. Hope Arun Iyengar can deliver on this.
