LONDON – Analog and mixed-signal chip company Silicon Laboratories Inc. announced Wednesday (July 18) it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against rival chip company MaxLinear Inc.

The suit, filed in the Southern District of California, San Diego Division., continues patent litigation against MaxLinear (Carlsbad, Calif.) that now involves 20 Silicon Lab's patents related to RF and mixed-signal design.

Silicon Labs (Austin, Texas) said. it intends to prove that MaxLinear’s portfolio of TV, set-top box, and cable tuners infringes on a number of Silicon Lab's key innovations. Silicon Labs has asked the court for an injunction stopping the sale of all the MaxLinear products that are alleged to infringe.

In May MaxLinear said it had filed a declaratory judgment complaint against Silicon Laboratories Inc. in U.S. federal court. That lawsuit seeks a ruling that MaxLinear products such as the MxL301 and MxL601 tuner ICs do not infringe on 19 patents belonging to Silicon Labs and seeks a ruling that the Silicon Labs patents are invalid.
