A new class of small cell base stations is in the wings. Here a Powerwave marketer shows his company's example of one of the larger of the small cell prototypes now entering field trials. The devices will be placed on street lights and in offices and popular hang outs to handle the growing mobile data flows. All the big players from Ericsson on down are planning the products. A subject of much debate is how these systems will be managed without interfering with the existing macro base station infrastructure.
