MANHASSET, N.Y. -- Xilinx Inc. has acquired substantially all of the assets of Modesat Communications of Estonia to complement its own wireless mobile backhaul solutions portfolio.

The purchased amount was not disclosed.

Modesat Communications was founded in 2005 in Tallinn, Estonia, to develop backhaul modem solutions for microwave, E-band and the non-line of sight markets. The company has 15 employees, who will be joining Xilinx as part of the Xilinx Communications Business Unit. Modesat has offices in Tallinn and San Diego, which will remain in operation.

Modesat IP includes optimized algorithmic implementations for FPGAs. Its IP solutions cover  wireless mobile backhaul requirements for wireless single-carrier PHY, packet processing and connectivity capabilities.

Xilinx said it will target the IP cores along with its existing signal processing and packet processing cores for its FPGAs and Zynq-7000 SoCs.
