LONDON – Mixed-signal chip company NXP Semiconductors NV (Eindhoven, The Netherlands) has appointed Hans Rijns and David French to take joint responsibility for research and development.

Rijns has been appointed chief technology officer, a job function he will combine with his current position as senior vice president and head of research. French has been appointed executive vice president of R&D, which he will combine with his current position as general manager of NXP's portable and computing business unit.

NXP's previous CTO was Rene Penning de Vries who left the company in July 2012. At that time Rijns was appointed interim CTO. Rijns will focus on innovation and technology strategies while French will focus his issues such as R&D productivity and time-to-market. Both report directly to CEO Rick Clemmer.

Rijns started his career at Philips Research working on mixed-signal circuits. Since 1996 he has held various technical, business and executive management positions at Philips Semiconductors and NXP.
