Intel will continue to supply desktop chipsets for use by 3rd party motherboard manufacturers like ASUS, ASRock and Gigabyte, but after 2013 it will no longer produce and sell its own desktop mITX/mATX/ATX designs in the channel.

I am sure that there is a strong business basis for moving away from motherboard production by Intel. I wonder if (just like IBM selling its laptop business) the economy of offshore production and development is driving the decision. After all, IBM may not be making laptops anymore but there sure have been boatloads of them sold in the US. That market didn't go away just the very high end prices eroded, hummm maybe that is why IBM and Intel is leaving business segments: not enough margin anymore.
