This article mentions (top of page 28) robots that will “help the elderly age-in-place at home”.
Three observations:
1. It sounds like you’re talking about cheese production, as if aging is a GOAL!
2. You can no longer say that a woman’s place is in the home, but apparently it’s okay to suggest that an elderly person’s place is in the home!
3. You could interpret it to mean that the robots will prevent the elderly from leaving their homes. “We have to make sure those elderly age IN PLACE at home. We can’t have them running loose in society!”
Can you imagine the author making this comment to a room full of elderly people? “We are going to build robots that will help you age in place at home”.
Wow. Sounds like fun!
