Grenoble, France — e2v's Grenoble, France division (formerly a part of Atmel) kicked off a new high-resolution family with a monolithic, 12-bit, analog-to-digital (A/D) converter boasting a clock frequency of 500 Msamples/s.

Applications for the AT84AS001TP A/D converter include telecommunications infrastructure, high intermediate frequency (IF) broadband digital receivers, test and measurement equipment, high-speed data acquisition, and defense radar and communications systems.

Offering 0.5-dB band flatness from DC to 250 MHz, the AT84AS001TP provides 62 dBc signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), 75 dBc spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) and 10 effective number of bits (ENOB) at 500 Msamples/s over the first Nyquist zone with two-tone intermodulation distortion (IMD) limited to 70 dB.

This level of performance is achieved while dissipating 2.3 watts with 3.3 volt and 5 V power supplies. The required analog input signal amplitude is 1.1 V peak to peak, and can be AC or DC coupled. An integrated three-wire serial interface offers convenient software control of the A/D converter gain and offset.

The AT84AS001TP provides a guaranteed 500-MHz sampling rate without any compromise on performance, said Jean-Charles Terrien, strategic marketing manager for Atmel's Broadband Data Conversion product line.

The AT84AS001TP A/D converter is available in a TBGA192 plastic package and will be offered in both commercial and industrial temperature ranges. Samples are available now, with production quantities planned for Q4 2006.

The commercial grade AT84AS001TP A/D converter is priced at $98.00 in 1,000-piece quantities. Click here for the AT84AS001TP data sheet.
