International Rectifier has announced a Class-D audio chipset comprising the IRS2092 audio driver IC with integrated protected PWM switching and an expanded line of the company's digital audio MOSFETs. Targeting 50 to 500-W high-performance audio applications, the chipset is designed to deliver a scalable Class-D audio solution that is much smaller than a comparable Class-AB solutions without compromising performance.
Based upon a half-bridge topology, the new audio driver IC integrates an error amplifier, PWM comparator, gate driver, and robust protection circuitry. Key features include an analog PWM modulator with frequency up to 800 kHz, programmable bidirectional over-current protection with self-reset control, under-voltage lockout protection, and programmable preset deadtime - selectable from 25 to 105 ns - for a scalable power design.
The IRS2092 can be paired with a range of the company's digital audio MOSFETs, addressing output power from 50 to 500 W. The MOSFETs, part of the IRFI4x, IRFB422x, and DirectFET families, are optimized around parameters critical to audio performance such as efficiency, THD, and EMI. Two new MOSFET additions are the 150-V IRF6775M and the 200-V IRF6785M DirectFET MOSFETs.
An available reference design, the IRAUDAMP5 - based upon the IRS2092 audio driver and IRF6645 DirectFET power MOSFETs - is a two-channel 120-W half-bridge power amplifier that may be scaled for power and number of channels, and requires no heatsink under normal operating conditions. The design offers an efficiency of 96% at 120 W in the MOSFET stage, and a THD+N of 0.005% at 1 kHz, 60 W, 4 Ω, (both typical).
Pricing: The IRS2092 is priced at US $2.70 each in 10,000-unit quantities. Pricing for the MOSFETs ranges from US $0.65 to $1.25 each, all in 10,000-unit quantities.
Availability: Production orders are available immediately.
