The AK4104 digital audio interface transmitter from AKM Semiconductor claims to offer lower cost and smaller size than previous devices, suiting it for consumer applications. The 24-bit 192-kHz device encodes and transmits audio data according to the AES3, IEC60958, S/PDIF and EIAJ CP1201 standards.

Master clock frequencies up to 1536fs are supported, and control is through a three- or a four-wire serial interface. In three-wire control mode, a two-input selector is available, as is a through mode.

The AK4104 supports sampling rates from 8 kHz to 192 kHz with an integrated 42-bit channel status buffer. Operation is from +3.3 V at 3 mW.

The AK4104 is packaged in a 16-pin TSSOP. Samples and an evaluation board are available now.
