Audio line driver cuts cost, components in TV peripherals

The DRV601 stereo line driver from Texas Instruments features ground-referenced outputs to eliminate dc-blocking capacitors in single-supply home entertainment applications where size and cost are critical design factors. The device integrates a charge pump to allow a complete audio output signal chain to run from a single 3.3-V power supply, enabling a reduction in the number of components required for a 2-Vrms ground biased output.

In addition, the DRV601 provides designers with the flexibility to vary the input gain with external gain-setting resistors that support a gain range of -1 V/V to -10 V/V. Specifications include a 2-Vrms/channel output voltage into 600 Ω at 3.3 V, a dynamic range of greater than 105 dB, and operation from 1.8 to 4.5 V.

Other features include pop reduction circuitry, and independent right and left channel shutdown control. The part also includes short-circuit and thermal protection.

The DRV601 is available in a 4 x 4-mm thin QFN package and priced at $0.90 each in 100-piece quantities.
