Rohde & Schwarz debuts its first broadband amplifiers

Rohde & Schwarz has developed its first family of broadband amplifiers. The company, a leading supplier of RF test and measurement equipment, has leveraged its expertise as a broadcast transmitter manufacturer to design the new product line.

The R&S BBA100 is a modular design that lets users select frequency range and output power to suit their requirements.

The R&S BBA100 is aimed at electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) applications in test houses and the electronics and automotive industry, as well as research institutes, development labs and government agencies.

"We have combined our amplifier expertise and our decades of experience in RF test and measurement in the R&S BBA100," said Juergen Nies, head of the Broadcasting Division at Rohde & Schwarz, in a statement. "We will use these amplifiers in our own EMC systems to ensure that our customers get everything from a single source."

The amplifier has three frequency bands in the range from 9 kHz to 1 GHz and provides power up to 500 W.

The basic version of the R&S BBA100 features up to three individually configurable interlock circuits that are each assigned to an RF path. The company said that makes it possible, for example, to work on the test setup or a DUT (device under test) in one room while a test is being performed and RF power is output in another room.

The R&S BBA100 can be operated via a color display or via a web GUI controlled from a PC or laptop with a web browser.

Rohde & Schwarz will introduce its R&S BBA100 family of broadband amplifiers at IEEE EMC in Austin, Texas.
